The Backup Administrator is a “specialized” systems administrator that uses their experience and knowledge of infrastructure and storage to operate, manage, document, and test the organizations backup and recovery routines.


The Backup Administrator’s primary responsibility is to manage the day-to-day backup routines and ensure all data is protected. The backup administrator is the primary backup system operator and has responsibility for the following activities.

• Backup Performance and Configuration
• Capacity Planning
• Trend Analysis
• Regularly Scheduled Audits
• Offsite Storage of Media
• Documentation
• Data Retention Compliancy

Additionally, the backup administrator will work closely with the Sr. Systems Administrator and the Director of Network Operations to streamline backup processes, improve recoverability, and reduce the cost per gigabyte to protect the organizations information assets.

We are looking for the following:
• 2 + years of experience managing and operating an enterprise backup solution in an enterprise scale environment
• 2 + years of experience administering a Windows 2000/2003/2008 Server environment. experience with BakBone Netvault ™ is desired
• In depth knowledge and experience with Windows 2003/2008 and Active Directory
• Understanding of server hardware and hardware maintenance
• Thorough understanding of backup technology including tape libraries, virtual libraries, media, and data de-duplication
• Basic understanding of virtualization technologies including Hyper-V and Virtual Server 2005 SP2
• Basic network troubleshooting skills
• Basic understanding of disk technologies including SCSI, SATA, SAS
• Basic understanding of network storage including iSCSI, Fiber Channel, AOE
• Strong troubleshooting skills with hardware and software
• BA degree in Computer Science or MIS is preferred
